Quick Start with AI Assistant

The fastest way to create maps:

  1. Go to AI Assistant: Navigate to Pinpoint → AI Assistant
  2. Ask in Natural Language: Type: "Create a Tokyo tourist map with Tokyo Tower, Senso-ji Temple, and Meiji Shrine"
  3. Click the Button: AI generates a button like [Create Map with 3 Points] - click it!
  4. Done! Complete map with 3 points created in one click.
Pro Tip: Say "my location" and AI will use your actual coordinates!
Example: "Create map of my location named Local Coffee Shops"

Traditional Method (Manual)

You can also create maps manually:

  1. Go to Pinpoint → Maps
  2. Click anywhere on the interactive map
  3. Select "Create New Map"
  4. Click again to "Add Point Here"
  5. Fill in details and save

Using AI Assistant

What You Can Ask:

  • "Create [map name] map" - Creates a map centered on that location
  • "Create [map] with [points]" - Creates map + multiple points in one click
  • "Add [points] to map [ID]" - Adds points to existing map
  • "Create [category] with [subcategories]" - Creates organized categories
  • "Add points near me" - Uses your actual location

Examples:

Single Map: "Create a Paris landmarks map" → Creates map centered on Paris
Map + Points: "Create Acre map with Uri Buri, Hummus Said, El Marsa restaurants" → Creates map + 3 restaurant points instantly
Add to Existing: "Add 5 hotels to map 12, you choose" → AI picks 5 famous hotels and adds them
Categories: "Create Restaurants category with Italian, Japanese, Mexican subcategories" → Creates category + 3 subcategories

AI Memory:

  • Knows which map you're working on
  • Remembers what you created
  • Persists between page refreshes
  • Click "New Conversation" to start fresh

1. Creating Maps Manually

  1. Navigate to Pinpoint → Maps
  2. Click anywhere on the interactive map
  3. Select "Create New Map"
  4. Enter a name (e.g., "Jerusalem Demo", "Store Locations")
  5. The map is created and centered at the clicked location
Tip: Zoom to your preferred level before creating. That zoom level is saved as default.

2. Adding Points

  1. Select your map from the dropdown
  2. Click where you want a marker
  3. Choose "Add Point Here"
  4. Fill in details: name, description, categories, contact info
  5. Add images or YouTube videos to create a gallery
  6. Save - marker appears immediately
Pro Tip: Use address search to jump directly to any location.

3. Categories & Subcategories

Categories create filter buttons on the frontend map.

  1. Go to Pinpoint → Categories
  2. Create categories (Food, Culture, Services, etc.)
  3. Add subcategories to each (Bakery, Restaurant, Museum, etc.)
  4. Use drag-and-drop to reorder
  5. Assign subcategories to points when editing them
  6. Check categories to connect them to specific maps
Note: Only categories checked for a map will appear in that map's frontend filters.

4. Displaying Maps (Shortcodes)

Basic Shortcode:

[pinpoint map="3"] → Displays map with ID 3

All Options:

Map Selection: [pinpoint] → Shows default map
[pinpoint map="3"] → Shows specific map by ID
Height Control: [pinpoint map="3" height="600px"] → Custom height (default 500px)
[pinpoint map="3" height="100vh"] → Full viewport height
Side Panel: [pinpoint map="3" sidepanel="false"] → Hide category filter panel
[pinpoint map="3" sidepanel="true"] → Show side panel (default)
Zoom & Center: [pinpoint map="3" zoom="15"] → Override zoom (1-18)
[pinpoint map="3" lat="32.0853" lng="34.7818"] → Override center
Combined: [pinpoint map="3" height="800px" zoom="12" sidepanel="false"] → Tall map, zoom 12, no side panel

AI Assistant

Create maps and points using natural language. AI understands context and remembers conversations.

AI knows your location. Say "create map near me" and it uses your coordinates.

Search for addresses or places using the geocoding search box.

Voice Dictation

Speak instead of type! Add text to fields using your voice.

How to Enable:

  1. Go to Settings → General
  2. Toggle Voice Dictation ON
  3. Microphone buttons appear on text fields

Two Transcription Methods:

Browser Speech (Default)

  • Free, instant results
  • No API credits used
  • Works in Chrome, Edge, Safari

AI Transcription (Optional)

  • More accurate
  • Better language support
  • Uses OpenAI Whisper or Google

Keyboard Shortcuts:

Ctrl+Shift+M Start/stop recording (when field is focused)
ESC Stop recording immediately

Settings Overview

Customize in Pinpoint → Settings:

  • General: Global options, default map, side panel behavior, voice dictation
  • Map Provider: Choose base map tiles (OpenStreetMap, satellite, etc.)
  • UI & Layout: Position controls, search box, zoom buttons
  • Marker Defaults: Sizes for desktop and mobile
  • Categories Panel: Width, opacity, mobile collapse behavior
  • AI API: Connect OpenAI, Anthropic, or Google for AI features
  • Languages: Manage translation files
  • Advanced: Uninstall behavior, debug info

Troubleshooting

AI Assistant not responding?

  • Check that AI API key is configured in Settings → AI API
  • Verify API key has available credits
  • Check browser console (F12) for JavaScript errors
  • Try clicking "New Conversation" to reset memory

Map not showing on frontend?

  • Check that you're using the correct Map ID in shortcode
  • Verify map is active in Pinpoint → Maps
  • Clear site cache if using caching plugin

Markers not appearing?

  • Ensure points are set to Active
  • Check that Latitude and Longitude are correct (not 0,0)
  • If using categories, check that points are assigned to visible subcategories

  • Be specific: "Create Tokyo map with 5 famous temples" gets better results than "create a map"
  • Use "you choose": Let AI pick points: "Add 3 restaurants, you choose"
  • Specify map ID: "Add points to map 12" keeps everything organized
  • One click workflow: Ask for map + points together to create everything at once
  • Hebrew works! Type in Hebrew and AI understands perfectly
  • Use your location: "Create map of my area" centers on your actual coordinates
  • Memory is persistent: Close and reopen - conversation is still there!
